Statement from our President/CEO, Barbara Maida-Stolle

Over the last week, our region has experienced unimaginable devastation from Hurricane Helene. However, we’ve also seen incredible acts of kindness and courage as our team members unite to help their neighbors and communities.

Our Goodwill leaders have spent the week connecting with our team members in our mountain counties. We have been intentional in our communications with these team members, and we have pledged to take care of those impacted in a holistic way. Goodwill leaders have traveled to the mountains several times this week with trucks full of supplies to support our team members and their families.

Today, October 4, we traveled to Asheville and the surrounding communities to provide essentials like water, food, gas, and cleaning supplies to help our team members get through the weekend. We’ve coordinated with area partners to provide further support to our impacted team members.

And, as it becomes safe, we have started reopening our stores, some with limited hours. We are opening the stores not to make money, but because we know our team members and neighbors are craving normalcy and community connections. As an example, when we opened our Franklin location mid-week, we quickly became a community hub for neighbors to check in on each other.

We’re honored to serve our communities – now more than ever. In the coming days, weeks, and months, we will continue working with partner agencies to meet the community’s evolving needs. We are deeply grateful for the support of our team members and partners.

Together, we are Goodwill. One team, united in our efforts to support our team members and neighbors across western North Carolina.

Stay safe and have a great weekend,

– Barbara Maida-Stolle, President/CEO of Goodwill Industries of Northwest North Carolina
